Calculate your scenario

Blended USD/hour = Σ(hours × USD/hour) ÷ Σ(hours). Total entered bill = Σ(hours × rate). Zero-hour rows contribute nothing.

Default worked example

Blended hourly rate $133.33/hour
Total hours 30 hr
Entered bill value $4,000.00

Hours × rates sum to $4,000.00 over 30 hours. The unrounded blended rate is 133.333333 USD/hour.

How to use the calculator

Enter the hours and hourly rate for each work row. Leave unused rows at zero hours. Read the weighted hourly rate separately from the total entered bill.

What the result means

Ten hours at $100 and twenty hours at $150 produce a $4,000 bill over 30 hours, or $133.3333 per hour before display rounding.

Formula and units

Blended USD/hour = Σ(hours × USD/hour) ÷ Σ(hours). Total entered bill = Σ(hours × rate). Zero-hour rows contribute nothing. Aggregate unrounded products before rounding the final display to cents; separately rounded rows can differ by a cent from that aggregate. This is not an invoicing ledger.

Worked examples

30 hours across two work rates: Hours — row 1: 10 hours; Rate — row 1: 100 USD/hour; Hours — row 2: 20 hours; Rate — row 2: 150 USD/hour; Hours — row 3: 0 hours; Rate — row 3: 0 USD/hour.
Example result: Blended hourly rate: $133.33/hour; Total hours: 30 hr; Entered bill value: $4,000.00.

15 hours across three work rates: Hours — row 1: 5 hours; Rate — row 1: 80 USD/hour; Hours — row 2: 5 hours; Rate — row 2: 120 USD/hour; Hours — row 3: 5 hours; Rate — row 3: 160 USD/hour.
Example result: Blended hourly rate: $120.00/hour; Total hours: 15 hr; Entered bill value: $1,800.00.

Limitations and common mistakes

Rates are entered billing assumptions. Taxes, discounts, collections, capacity and project overruns are excluded. This is an hourly consulting rate, not a debt interest rate.

Do not average the rate column without weighting it by hours. Enter hours, not minutes; mixed currencies cannot be combined directly.
