Calculate your scenario

Swim time = swim metres ÷ 100 × pace per 100 m.

Your inputs

Try an example

Default worked example. Edit the inputs to calculate your scenario.

Default worked example

Projected finish time 2:50:00
Swim split 0:30:00
Bike split 1:20:00
Run split 0:55:00
Transitions (T1 + T2) 0:05:00
Distances used 1.5 / 40 / 10 km

0:30:00 swim + 0:03:00 T1 + 1:20:00 bike + 0:02:00 T2 + 0:55:00 run = 2:50:00.

How to use the calculator

Choose a race distance (or Custom and enter the three distances in km), then your swim pace per 100 m, bike speed, run pace and expected T1 and T2 minutes. Use paces you can hold for the whole leg, not your best splits.

What the result means

An Olympic race at 2:00 per 100 m, 30 km/h and 5:30 per km with 5 minutes of transitions projects to 2:50:00.

Formula and units

Swim time = swim metres ÷ 100 × pace per 100 m. Bike time = bike distance ÷ average speed. Run time = run distance × pace. In imperial mode distances are converted at 1 mile = 1.609344 km. Each leg and transition is rounded to the nearest second, then summed for the finish time.

70.3 at 2:10/100 m, 18 mph, 9:00/mi: Custom swim distance: 1.5 km; Custom bike distance: 40 km; Custom run distance: 10 km; Swim pace per 100 m: minutes: 2 min; Swim pace per 100 m: seconds: 10 s; Average bike speed: 18 km/h or mph; Run pace: minutes: 9 min per km or mile; Run pace: seconds: 0 s; T1 (swim to bike): 4 min; T2 (bike to run): 3 min; Race distance: half; Bike and run units: imperial.
Example result: Projected finish time: 5:52:35; Swim split: 0:41:10; Bike split: 3:06:25; Run split: 1:58:00; Transitions (T1 + T2): 0:07:00; Distances used: 1.9 / 90 / 21.1 km.

Limitations and common mistakes

A projection from the paces you enter, not a prediction of race-day performance. It does not model course elevation, wind, heat, current, wetsuit rules, drafting, fatigue from earlier legs or the real course lengths, which often differ from the nominal distances.

Using an open-road or fresh-legs run pace; the run after the bike is usually slower, so enter the pace you expect off the bike.
