Should a homeschool transcript show weighted or unweighted GPA?
Requirements vary. Keeping both calculations available and stating the weighting policy makes the transcript easier to interpret.
How do half-credit courses affect GPA?
A half-credit course contributes half as many quality points as a one-credit course with the same grade points.
What grade points should I enter for an A, B, C, or D?
Use the scale stated on the transcript. A common unweighted scale uses 4, 3, 2, and 1, but plus/minus and other policies differ.
Can a course have zero credits?
In this calculator, zero credits leave that row out of the totals. It is useful for unused rows, not for recording a completed non-credit activity.
How to use the calculator
Enter up to four courses under an explicitly entered 0–4 base grade and added-weight policy. Credits run from 0 to 10 in 0.25 increments; base grade points run from 0 to 4 in 0.01 increments. Added weight runs from 0 to 2 in 0.25 increments. At least one course must have positive credit.
What the result means
Two one-credit courses with grade points 2.01 and 3.02 have 5.03 quality points over 2 credits: GPA is exactly 2.515 and displays as 2.52. Weighted GPA can exceed 4 because added weight is explicitly entered. The displayed quality-point totals and GPAs round independently.
Formula and units
Unweighted quality points = sum(credit × base grade). Weighted quality points = sum(credit × (base grade + entered added weight)). Divide each quality-point total by the total positive credits. Zero-credit rows contribute no quality points and are not counted. Exact entered increments are retained until the final half-up display rounding.

Limitations and common mistakes
This is a credit-weighted arithmetic model, rather than a universal transcript policy. Schools and transcript recipients may use different grade conversions, eligible courses, weighting, caps and rounding. This calculator does not convert letter grades, infer semester credits or certify a transcript.
Do not divide quality points by the number of courses when credits differ. Do not add weight to the unweighted GPA or count zero-credit rows. Keep the exact credit and grading policy with a transcript; a recipient may recalculate it.
