Flight Time Calculator

Find the real flight duration between two local departure and arrival times with UTC offsets, or the local arrival time from a departure time and flight length.

Interactive calculator · Method FLIGHT-TIME-1.0 · Last reviewed: 2026-11-04

Calculate your scenario

Each local time is converted to UTC by subtracting its offset (UTC = local − offset); flight duration = arrival UTC − departure UTC.

Default worked example. Edit the inputs to calculate your scenario.

Default worked example

Flight duration 11:50 (11 h 50 min)
Arrival local time 2026-11-05 15:50 (UTC+09:00)
Arrival in departure time zone 2026-11-04 22:50 (UTC−08:00)
Time-zone difference +17:00 (arrival zone ahead)
Calendar days crossed +1 day

Departure 2026-11-04 11:00 (UTC−08:00) = 2026-11-04 19:00 (UTC+00:00); adding 11:50 gives 2026-11-05 06:50 (UTC+00:00) = 2026-11-05 15:50 (UTC+09:00) local.

How to use the calculator

Choose a mode. Enter the departure date, 24-hour time and UTC offset. For duration, also enter the arrival local date, time and offset; for an arrival time, enter the flight length instead.

What the result means

Leaving Los Angeles at 11:00 (UTC−08:00) and landing in Tokyo at 15:50 the next day (UTC+09:00) is an 11 h 50 min flight; Tokyo is 17 hours ahead, so the calendar moves forward one day.

Formula and units

Each local time is converted to UTC by subtracting its offset (UTC = local − offset); flight duration = arrival UTC − departure UTC. In arrival mode, arrival UTC = departure UTC + duration and arrival local = arrival UTC + arrival offset. Time-zone difference = arrival offset − departure offset; days crossed = arrival local date − departure local date.

Worked examples

Los Angeles to Tokyo, times known: Departure local date: 2026-11-04 YYYY-MM-DD calendar date; Departure local time: 11:00 24-hour HH:MM; Arrival local date (duration mode): 2026-11-05 YYYY-MM-DD calendar date; Arrival local time (duration mode): 15:50 24-hour HH:MM; Flight duration hours (arrival mode): 11 h; Flight duration minutes (arrival mode): 50 min; Calculate: elapsed; Departure UTC offset (including any daylight saving in effect): -480; Arrival UTC offset (including any daylight saving in effect): 540.
Example result: Flight duration: 11:50 (11 h 50 min); Arrival local time: 2026-11-05 15:50 (UTC+09:00); Arrival in departure time zone: 2026-11-04 22:50 (UTC−08:00); Time-zone difference: +17:00 (arrival zone ahead); Calendar days crossed: +1 day.

Delhi departure plus 9 h 45 min to London: Departure local date: 2026-11-04 YYYY-MM-DD calendar date; Departure local time: 02:15 24-hour HH:MM; Arrival local date (duration mode): 2026-11-05 YYYY-MM-DD calendar date; Arrival local time (duration mode): 15:50 24-hour HH:MM; Flight duration hours (arrival mode): 9 h; Flight duration minutes (arrival mode): 45 min; Calculate: arrival; Departure UTC offset (including any daylight saving in effect): 330; Arrival UTC offset (including any daylight saving in effect): 0.
Example result: Flight duration: 9:45 (9 h 45 min); Arrival local time: 2026-11-04 06:30 (UTC+00:00); Arrival in departure time zone: 2026-11-04 12:00 (UTC+05:30); Time-zone difference: −5:30 (arrival zone behind); Calendar days crossed: 0 days.

Limitations and common mistakes

You enter the UTC offsets; there is no time-zone database and no schedule lookup, so choose the offset actually in force on that date, including daylight saving time (for example New York is UTC−05:00 in winter and UTC−04:00 in summer). Times are whole minutes. Duration is gate-to-gate clock time as entered, not a prediction of flying time, delays or routing.

Using the standard offset when daylight saving time is in effect shifts the answer by an hour. Check the offset for the travel date, not today.
