Reference-rate conversion only. Banks, cards, cash desks, fees, spreads, and transaction timing can produce a different amount.
Use the result

From calculation to decision

Use this converter for an informational reference comparison. Read the rate status before treating the output as current enough for the decision.

What changes the result most

The displayed rate drives the estimate directly. A card spread or fixed transfer fee can outweigh small movements in the reference rate.

What to do next

Change one high-leverage input, compare the new result with the default, and confirm any current rate, policy, quote, or external rule that controls the real decision.

Save and report

Calculation happens in this browser. Shared links include the visible input values, so inspect the URL before sending a sensitive scenario.

When this calculation helps

Use this converter for an informational reference comparison. Read the rate status before treating the output as current enough for the decision.

The result separates the primary answer from supporting values so you can see both the number and the assumptions that produced it. Adjust one field at a time when comparing scenarios; changing several inputs together makes it harder to identify why the answer moved.

Formula / methodology

converted amount = source amount × displayed rate inverse rate = 1 ÷ displayed rate

The browser requests one dated source/quote rate through Frankfurter with the provider restricted to ECB. A successful response is cached by currency pair. Offline or failed refreshes keep the rate visible and identify it as cached, stale, or manually entered.

Assumptions and limitations

  • The example rate is not silently represented as current.
  • A same-currency pair fixes the rate at one.
  • The converter does not add bank fees, card spreads, commissions, cash rates, or settlement timing.
  • Cached data remains labeled with its source date.

Worked examples

Visible manual rate

At an entered USD-to-EUR rate of 0.92, USD 100 converts to EUR 92 before fees.

Offline revisit

After one successful refresh, the pair can reuse its locally cached rate and date when the network is unavailable.

Common mistakes

  • Calling a reference rate the amount a bank will actually deliver.
  • Hiding the data date or continuing to imply freshness after a failed request.
  • Applying the inverse rate in the wrong direction.

FAQ

Is this a real-time trading rate?

No. It is a dated informational reference rate and may differ from market, bank, card, and cash-desk prices.

What happens offline?

The last successfully cached pair can be reused with its date; otherwise the visible entered rate remains available and labeled as manual.

Sources and assumptions

Rate transport and response fields follow the Frankfurter API. The reference-data boundary follows the European Central Bank reference-rate page.

Calculator-specific review

Decision supported: Convert an amount with an explicitly displayed rate and freshness state.

Inputs and two scenarios

The inputs below are scenario controls, not facts supplied by a source. Change the values to see how this calculator responds to the decision you are making.

published default example: Amount: 100; Displayed reference rate: 0.92; From currency: USD; To currency: EUR. Expected output: Converted amount: €92.00; Source amount: $100.00; Reference rate: 1 USD = 0.92 EUR; Inverse rate: 1 EUR = 1.08695652 USD.

materially different higher currency converter scenario: Amount: 150; Displayed reference rate: 1.38; From currency: EUR; To currency: EUR. Expected output: Converted amount: €150.00; Source amount: €150.00; Reference rate: 1 EUR = 1 EUR; Inverse rate: 1 EUR = 1 EUR.

What changes the result

The rate changes the result directly; transaction spreads, fees, and timing are outside the model.

Method and evidence boundary

The source amount is multiplied by the displayed source-to-destination reference rate; the inverse is its reciprocal. Frankfurter supplies the API transport and ECB-filtered central-bank reference data; the entered or cached rate remains visible.
