UTM Coordinate Converter
Convert UTM zone, easting and northing to WGS84 latitude and longitude, or latitude and longitude to UTM, with decimal degrees, DMS and a round-trip check.

Calculate your scenario
Uses the WGS84 ellipsoid (a = 6,378,137 m, f = 1/298.257223563) and the Krüger series for the Transverse Mercator projection with scale factor 0.9996, false easting 500,000 m and false northing 10,000,000 m in the southern hemisphere.

Default worked example
WGS84 Transverse Mercator (k0 = 0.9996, central meridian -75°): zone 18N 583959.37 E 4507351.00 N ↔ 40.712800°, -74.006000°.
How to use the calculator
For UTM to lat/long, enter the zone number, hemisphere, easting and northing in meters. For the reverse, enter latitude and longitude in decimal degrees with south and west as negative numbers; the zone is chosen from the longitude.
What the result means
Zone 18N, 583,959.37 m E, 4,507,351.00 m N is 40.712800°N, 74.006000°W, in lower Manhattan, New York City; the back-projection agrees to well under a millimeter.
Formula and units
Uses the WGS84 ellipsoid (a = 6,378,137 m, f = 1/298.257223563) and the Krüger series for the Transverse Mercator projection with scale factor 0.9996, false easting 500,000 m and false northing 10,000,000 m in the southern hemisphere. Zone central meridian = 6 × zone − 183°. The result is projected back the other way and the difference is shown.

Limitations and common mistakes
WGS84 and UTM only. No datum shift is applied, so NAD27, ED50, OSGB36 or local grid coordinates will be off by up to hundreds of meters. Lat/long → UTM uses the standard 6° zone from longitude and ignores the Norway and Svalbard exceptions. Not for survey, legal boundary or navigation use.
Picking the wrong hemisphere. A southern-hemisphere northing read as northern lands thousands of kilometers away; the latitude band letter (for example “T”) is not the hemisphere.
