Default worked example

Monthly net income $5,200.00
Monthly ordinary expenses $3,500.00
Balance before allocations $1,700.00
Monthly savings / extra debt $700.00
Unallocated monthly balance $1,000.00
Annual income / expenses / allocations $62,400.00 / $42,000.00 / $8,400.00

Monthly income − expenses − separate allocations = $5,200.00 − $3,500.00 − $700.00 = $1,000.00. Annual unallocated balance: $12,000.00.

How to use the calculator

Enter one category | amount | period per line, up to 60 lines per group. Repeat a category to combine its totals. Blank expense or allocation groups mean zero. A zero income line is supported.

What the result means

Compare the monthly balance before allocations with the unallocated balance to see what is left after planned savings.

Formula and units

Annualize weekly ×52, biweekly ×26, semimonthly ×24, monthly ×12 and annual ×1, then divide by 12. Balance before allocations = net income − ordinary expenses. Unallocated balance subtracts savings and extra-debt allocations once.

Limitations and common mistakes

All amounts use USD and take-home income. Examples are illustrative; payroll taxes are not estimated. Biweekly means every two weeks, while semimonthly means twice per month. This uses 52/26 periods per year, not actual paycheck dates. Keep regular debt payments in ordinary expenses and extra payments in allocations. No required savings ratio. Independent of Voya. Counting the same savings transfer both as an ordinary expense and as a savings allocation.
